DR. Spiriev Bojidar trophy

Since its very beginning, the Gyulai István Memorial – Hungarian Athletics Grand Prix has been paying tribute to the memory of Dr. Bojidar Spiriev.

It was almost forty years ago when the inventor of the official IAAF Scoring Tables developed a scoring table that has become widespread in the whole world since then, and it serves as a basis for the IAAF World Rankings. His precise and innovative work of a lifetime was acknowledged in the whole world. In civil life he was a world-famous hydrogeological engineer, whose incredible expertise in athletics was combined with exceptional humbleness and kindness. Dr. Bojidar Spiriev passed away in 2010.

Every year the athlete with the best result by the IAAF Scoring Tables receives the Dr. Bojidar Spiriev trophy in the Gyulai István Memorial – Hungarian Athletics Grand Prix. The trophy is handed over by Attila Spiriev, son of Dr. Bojidar Spiriev and sports director of the Gyulai István Memorial – Hungarian Athletics Grand Prix.
